As South Carolina prepares for potential effects of Hurricane Ian later this week, the following continuing legal education seminars have been cancelled.

  • 2022 NC/SC Joint Construction Law Conference in Charleston
  • Insurance Bad Faith: The Law in South Carolina
  • 2022 Transactional/Corporate Practice Essentials

Bar members who were registered for one of the seminars, please check your email for more detailed information.

The SC Bar Young Lawyers Division in partnership with the American Bar Association YLD and the SC Bar Pro Bono Program stand ready to implement a hotline for South Carolinians seeking assistance with disaster-related legal issues, if needed.

SC Bar volunteers responded to hundreds of calls from our neighbors and friends seeking answers to disaster-related legal questions during past events. To continue the success of the hotline when a presidential declaration of a major disaster occurs, we need your help. The YLD is seeking lawyers (of all ages and experience levels) who are willing to assist hotline callers by providing answers to basic FEMA and disaster-related questions.

Most disaster survivors have basic legal questions related to FEMA applications and appeals, landlord-tenant law, construction law and insurance law that can be answered in one phone interaction.

If you are interested in assisting with the hotline when a major disaster hits South Carolina, sign up here.

The SC Bar’s Pro Bono Program offers a variety of useful resources for volunteer attorneys who want to help with disaster legal services.

As you get ready for  the storm, note that our Practice Management Assistance Program offers tips for preparing your law practice for disasters and emergency situations.
