Mock Trial is back in person and better than ever! Results from the 2022-2023 South Carolina Bar Middle School Regional Mock Trial Competition held Nov.5 are in. Congratulations to all students, teacher coaches and attorney coaches from 26 middle schools who took part in the outstanding event.

Twelve teams will advance to the 2022 State Middle School Mock Trial Competition held at the Richland Magistrate Courthouse in Columbia Dec. 2-3. They are the following:

  • Columbia Region: Winner Bob Jones Academy of Greenville, second place winner Forest Creek Middle School of Fort Mill, third place winner Dent Middle School of Columbia, and wild card teams Pleasant Knoll Middle School of Fort Mill and Hand Middle School of Columba.
  • Georgetown Region: Winner St. Andrew Catholic of Myrtle Beach, second place winner Palmetto Academy of Myrtle Beach, third place winner Ten Oaks Middle School of Myrtle Beach, and wild card team Buist Academy of Charleston.
  •  Lexington Region: Winner JET Middle School of Johnston, second place winner Chapin Middle School of Chapin and third place winner Jackson Magnet Middle of Jackson.

Kudos to Professionalism and Civility Award Recipients Green Charter Middle School, Whittemore Park Middle School, and JET Middle School.

“It was so exciting to host the Middle School Mock Trial Regional Competition in person for first time in over two years,” said Cynthia H. Cothran, SC Bar Law Related Education Division director. “Thanks to all the volunteers including the nearly 70 judges, 51 attorney coaches and 33 teacher coaches who made this year’s regional competition possible for 26 teams impacting 584 students statewide on competition day. The Law Related Education Committee and Division appreciates everyone’s dedication, passion, enthusiasm, and time for this fabulous program we call, Mock Trial!”
