COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 20, 2016)—Jenkinson, Jarrett & Kellahan, PA (JJ&K) was awarded the 2016 Solo and Small Firm Section Award during the Bar’s LPM-TECH Conference on Friday, Sept. 16, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Members of the firm include Ernest J. Jarrett, W.E. Jenkinson III, Jennifer R. Kellahan, W. Evan Reynolds and J. Thomas Thompson.

Last year, when their community suffered vast flood damage, JJ&K firm members worked actively with the Kingstree United Methodist Church, establishing a Flood Donation Relief Center to get much needed supplies to the flood victims. Due to severe flood damage, the local hospital had to close, and senior partner Billy Jenkinson, who has represented the hospital for decades, worked countless hours to get the mobile emergency room up and running to provide the services the community desperately needed. The attorneys have been recognized and highly praised by their peers in the legal profession for their volunteer assistance in providing basic necessities and aid for flood victims in Kingstree.

Attorneys at JJ&K teach classes for the South Carolina Bar’s Law School for Non-Lawyers and have volunteered hours in local schools speaking on their careers as lawyers, participating each year in local mock trials and reading to elementary school students. The firm members have also held leadership positions in the South Carolina Association for Justice, the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives, the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Kingstree Lions Club, the Kingstree Rotary Club, the Andrews Rotary Club and Moose International.

The Solo and Small Firm Section Award is presented annually to a sole practitioner or small law firm that has demonstrated service and leadership to the community or to fellow lawyers. Award recipients must display exemplary skill and conduct in the practice of law and have made significant contributions of time and talent to the SC Bar, the lawyer's local bar or local community or devoted substantial time and effort to the education and training of fellow solo or small firm lawyers in S.C. The award was created in 2013 in an effort to increase awareness of the value of lawyers in small firms in the state and the legal community. JJ&K is the award’s third recipient.
