Mission
The Section provides information, education and advice to our members, the general public and the S.C. Workers' Compensation Commission on matters affecting the Bar. The section serves as a resource regarding potential legislation before the General Assembly, executive branch and the S.C. Workers’ Compensation Commission. The council conducts six meetings each year in order to discuss section-related issues and keep members abreast of current South Carolina Workers’ Compensation topics. Additionally, the section sponsors educational seminars designed to improve the quality and professionalism of attorneys appearing before the S.C. Workers’ Compensation Commission.
Section BylawsGoals
- Continue to host an annual reception for the SC Workers’ Compensation Commissioners and Section members.
- Continue to conduct an educational seminar during the SC Bar Annual Convention.
- Continue to inform Section members of significant developments related to workers’ compensation, including items addressed by the SC Workers’ Compensation Commission, through the Section community platform, in E-Blast, on the Section Website and on various other social media outlets.
- Continue to support Kid’s Chance of South Carolina, Inc., by contributing to its college scholarship program, which provides scholarships to the children of South Carolina workers who have been severely or fatally injured in a workplace-related accident.
- Continue to monitor and identify needs for legislative activity related to related to workers' compensation laws that would have an impact on both the defense and claimants' bars.
- Continue to collaborate with claimants and defense lawyers on matters pertaining to the oath of civility and other professional concerns that impact the practice of workers’ compensation.
