Tax Law Section

Mission

The purpose of this Section shall be to promote the objects of the South Carolina Bar within the particular field designated by the name of the Section, and, to that end, to further the development of the law of taxation; to stimulate and extend the study of taxation; to cooperate in obtaining uniformity with respect to both legislation and administration in all matters concerning taxation and to simplify and improve the application of justice in the field of taxation.

Goals

  • Sponsor a Section seminar and a council and faculty dinner in conjunction with the SC Bar Convention.
  • Continue to inform Section members of significant developments in local and state tax laws through the Section community platform, on the Bar website, and various other social media outlets.
  • Explore partnering with other Bar entities and other organizations for networking events and educational programs.  
  • Continue to actively participate, promote, and support the Al Todd Workshop.
  • Continue to produce online CLEs and distance learning programs, including seeking volunteers from the Section to speak on topics that will be available for online CLE/specialty credit.
  • Explore hosting a Section seminar that would offer tax specialization credit.   
  • Co-sponsor a networking event with the Bar’s Probate, Estate Planning & Trust Section and students with the Tax Law Association at the USC Joseph F. Rice School of Law. 
  • Identify ways to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Section and its leadership.
