Construction Law Section

Mission

Promotes the goals and objectives of the SC Bar by providing educational programs, identifying and monitoring legislative activity, producing publications, and informing members of significant developments relevant to the practice of construction law. It supports public education and outreach by participating in community service projects and marketing its pro bono/low bono referral system through the SC Bar.

Goals

  • Produce a Construction Law Section membership directory in alternating years.
  • Coordinate a joint conference in the fall with the North Carolina Bar Association Construction Law Section.
  • Continue to conduct an educational seminar in conjunction with the SC Bar Convention.
  • Continue to inform Section members of significant developments related to construction law (i.e., pertinent cases, legislative updates) through the Section community platform, in E-Blast, on the Bar Website, and other social media outlets.
  • Continue to encourage Section members to submit articles to be published in the SC Lawyer and/or other Bar publications.
  • Continue to explore ways to increase participation within the Section by providing networking opportunities, member incentives, etc.
  • Explore partnering with Bar entities or various other organizations (i.e., Habitat for Humanity, Affordable Housing Coalition of S.C.) by participating in community service projects, coordinating education programs, etc.
  • Identify ways to increase diversity within the Section and its leadership.
  • Encourage Section members to serve as mentors to law students.  
  • Continue to expand the pro bono/low bono referral system and encourage member participation through the SC Bar.
  • Continue to monitor and identify needs for legislative activity appropriate for construction law issues.
