On Tuesday, September 23rd, the SC Bar Pro Bono Program partnered with SC Legal Services, Time Served, and the Joseph F. Rice School of Law hosted a free legal clinic on the campus of USC Aiken. The event was held in concert with the South Carolina Supreme Court’s visit to Aiken for oral arguments, creating a unique opportunity in the Second Circuit.

Throughout the day, nineteen low-income South Carolinians received assistance with either the expungement and pardon process or simple divorce matters. The clinic featured on-site support from the Justice Van, operated by SC Legal Services, and the Palmetto LEADER mobile law office, operated by the Joseph F. Rice School of Law. These mobile units allowed for direct service delivery in a convenient and accessible location.

This clinic was made possible through generous grant funding from the SC Bar Foundation. Their continued investment in access to justice initiatives is essential to the success of programs like this one. We are deeply grateful for their support and commitment to ensuring legal services reach those who need them most.

The SC Bar Pro Bono Program remains committed to building partnerships that bring legal resources directly into communities. Events like this demonstrate the power of collaboration and the importance of meeting people where they are.

More clinics are on the horizon, and we’re always looking for attorneys ready to make a difference. If you’re interested in using your skills to serve your community, we’d love to have you involved.
