Law Firm Accountant / Bookkeeper

Location: Columbia, South Carolina

Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Flexible)

Our established two-attorney law firm is seeking an experienced Law Firm Accountant/Bookkeeper to oversee the firm's daily financial operations. We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented professional who is comfortable working independently and understands the unique accounting requirements of a law practice, including attorney trust accounting.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the firm's financial records are accurate, organized, and compliant.

Responsibilities

Prepare and reconcile daily bank deposits

Issue checks and process firm and trust account disbursements

Maintain attorney trust (IOLTA) accounts and perform monthly three-way trust reconciliations

Manage firm operating accounts

Record and reconcile all financial transactions using QuickBooks

Process client payments, including credit card and electronic transactions

Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding invoices

Process vendor invoices and maintain accounts payable

Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation

Assist with monthly and year-end financial reporting

Coordinate with the firm's CPA for tax preparation and financial reporting

Maintain confidentiality of all financial and client information

Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as needed

Qualifications

Previous law firm accounting or bookkeeping experience required

Thorough understanding of attorney trust accounting and trust reconciliation procedures

Proficiency with QuickBooks required

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel required

Excellent mathematical, organizational, and analytical skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills

Experience with legal billing or practice management software is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $30,000–$50,000 annually, depending on experience and preferred hours

Monday–Friday schedule: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Flexible)

Requirements

Education: College degree preferred

Experience: Previous law firm experience required
