Job Summary

Counselor, Legal I

Location: This position is full-time (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday in a typical office environment. This role is onsite at I-20 @ Alpine Rd. Columbia, SC.

Position Purpose: The Legal Counselor I supports legal needs including some litigation management, contract review, acquisitions, and regulatory interpretation, ensuring timely and competent guidance.

What You’ll Do:

Provides general research, analysis and advice on legal matters impacting the company in a broad range of areas as assigned, including but not limited to, contract drafting and negotiations, pending and threatened litigation, acquisitions, due diligence, and interpreting laws and regulations.

Analyzes, investigates and responds to pending and threatened litigation. Monitors and assists with litigation assigned to outside counsel. Negotiates, reviews and updates contract language. Drafts and revises significant business communications. Provides legal support in connection with business transactions and corporate matters.

Engages, manages and supervises outside counsel when appropriate and necessary, to provide the necessary level of legal services required for specific matters or transactions.

Manages and develops staff. Participates in law department initiatives to improve quality and efficiency of the department’s services.

To Qualify For This Position, You’ll Need The Following:

Required Education: Juris Doctorate

Required Work Experience: 3 years experience in business or civil defense litigation or corporate legal work. OR 1-2 years judicial clerkship experience in lieu of 3 years corporate legal work experience.

Required Training: Admission to South Carolina Bar, including a Rule 405 Limited Certificate of Admission.
