Course Overview
The South Carolina Bar-CLE Division and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) are pleased to present a unique opportunity for you to earn 1.5 hours of CLE credit while also obtaining the state-mandated training necessary to obtain your South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit. Taught by RCSD certified law enforcement firearms instructors, this one-day course will provide both the novice and the experienced individual with the essential information on gun safety and marksmanship.

In a step-by-step sequence, you will learn:

· Basics of pistol shooting
· Trigger finger etiquette
· How to safely load and unload different types of handguns
· Specific firearms nomenclature
· Sighting techniques and marksmanship
· How to carry, draw and holster your pistol from concealment
· How to disassemble, clean, store and transport your pistol in accordance to the laws of South Carolina.

The CLE portion of the program will cover the various state laws concerning concealed weapons, firearms purchase, self-defense, interacting with law enforcement, homicide and manslaughter. These topics will be taught with an eye toward educating practitioners on how to represent their clients in gun and concealed weapon cases.

Mandatory MCLE Credit Hours
This seminar qualifies for 1.5 MCLE Credit Hours.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: (Classroom)

• Writing notebook and BLACK pen.
• Your SLED CWP Application (Fill out application on line at www.sled.sc.gov)

Please Note, you Must submit your CWP application to SLED along with ALL supporting documentation, copy of State or Federal Gov’t issued photo id, drivers license, your training certificate, SLED fee, (2) finger print cards etc., as specified on the application. Read the SLED application carefully, failure to do so will result in your entire application being returned to you by SLED

• Good Attitude

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED FOR YOU:

• Instructional and testing materials.
• (2) Finger Print cards. (If Needed) to submit with your SLED-CWP application
• Procedural review of your SLED application.
• SLED CWP Training Certificate upon successful completion of both the SLED-CWP Written and Range Proficiency test.

DO NOT BRING FIREARMS or AMMUNITION INTO THE CLASSROOM!

RANGE EQUIPMENT…

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU:

1. WRAP AROUND SAFETY GLASSES (Bring it if you have it), Prescription Eye Glasses Are Fine !
2. HEARING PROTECTION - Bring it if you have it (Otherwise will provide)

EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO BRING:

1. BALL CAP - with Brim
2. CASUAL SHIRT WITH COLLAR - Preferred
3. COMFORTABLE SHOES - Low Heal / Flat (No tall heels)
4. OUTER GARMENT (LIGHT JACKET) ETC OR OTHER METHOD OF CONCEALMENT, i.e. FANNY PACK, ANKLE HOLSTER, OVER-SIZED SHIRT, etc. (you will be required to draw from concealment during portions of the Range Proficiency testing)
5. BELT SLIDE HOLSTER WITH TRIGGER GUARD OR CONCEALMENT HOLSTER / METHOD i.e. FANNY PACK, ANKLE HOLSTER etc.
6. TWO (2) MAGAZINES FOR PISTOLS OR 1 SPEED LOADER MINIMUM FOR REVOLVERS.
7. HANDGUN OF AT LEAST .380 CALIBER - Recommended but Not required by CWP law. (Please leave your weapon secured in your Vehicle until instructed to retrieve)
8. 100-ROUNDS OF NEWLY MANUFACTURED AMMO- Preferred FIFTY ROUND MINIMUM BULLET TYPE: FMJ-(Full Metal Jacket) Target Ammo preferred, or Full Power Self-Defense Ammo.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING THE FOLLOWING TYPE AMMUNITION:

• SOFT NOSE LEAD BULLETS
• WAD-CUTTERS or SEMI-WAD CUTTERS
• RELOADS
• MILITARY SURPLUS

POST RANGE TESTING:
1. Immediate Securing of all Weapons. Slides locked backed on auto’s and cylinders open on revolvers. (Instructor; S. Hubbard Must retain All targets & tests)
Upon safety check by Instructor will request ALL weapons be secured in your vehicle.
2. Scoring & Collection of targets. SLED CWP Proficiency Test (70% Minimum Score)
3. Issue of SLED Training Certificates to successful applicants on site or post training via email / U.S. Mail at Instructors preference.
