About the Seminar
This program provides a broad overview of legal and regulatory topics impacting businesses of all sizes in South Carolina and serves as a foundational resource for the attorneys who advise them. The authors of the Handbook and other practitioners from around the state will present material from each chapter of the Handbook in an engaging format, beneficial to attorneys of all experience levels outlining important considerations integral to the representation of business clients. The seminar will provide information on topics such as initial business formation and tax considerations, corporate governance, business licenses, real estate considerations for business owners, basic employment law considerations, intellectual property, workers' compensation rules, securities considerations, buying and selling a business, and dissolution and termination. The CLE will benefit attorneys by helping to identify core competencies of a business practitioner and to assist in understanding the legal concerns of business clients which may require the attorney to engage co-counsel to assist in those areas of law. The Handbook includes practical application of business law concepts, highlighting basic legal strategy for lawyers and business owners through a “Q&A” and “Practice Pointer” format placed throughout the chapters. These pointers will be highlighted and discussed during the CLE to help sharpen practice skills for attendees.
