You will work under the supervision of the Department’s General Counsel, and lead the administrative processes for contract administration from preparation to contract execution; provide professional expertise in contract preparation, execution, routing and storage; provide expertise regarding compliance with funding rules and regulations; and provide other customary paralegal services to the Department’s General Counsel.
You will be responsible for the standardization an implementation of administrative procedures for efficient award and sub award management. Manages and monitors contract preparation, supporting staff in other agency divisions in expeditious document processing.
Your duties include the preparation of contractual documents and ancillary business forms. Prepares and negotiates critical contracts, subcontracts, sub-grants and modifications. Serves as a technical resource in drafting requests for proposal (“RFPs”). Work in partnership with program staff to achieve successful and compliant contract performance. Conducts periodic reviews of the contract portfolio with senior management.
You will ensure that the Department utilizes contracts and other agreements that comply with grant funding source terms and conditions. Coordinate with executive leadership and Department staff regarding critical contractual issues.
You will assist the General Counsel with: responding to subpoenas, legal complaints & Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests; occasional legal research; and other Department legal matters.
You will be responsible for notarizing documents (if the applicant is not a South Carolina Notary Public, they should be eligible to become a South Carolina Notary Public).
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Minimum Requirements for the Senior Paralegal:
Paralegal Certificate or an Associate degree in paralegal studies, plus three (3) to five (5) years of relevant paralegal experience,
OR A high school diploma plus five (5) years of relevant paralegal experience.
Additional Requirements for the Senior Paralegal:
- Knowledge of contract law
- Experience with preparing contracts and routing them to parties for execution
- Knowledge of state procurement laws and regulations

- A Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies and three (3) to five (5) years of relevant paralegal experience
