The Children's Law Center at the University of South Carolina School of Law seeks a part-time Attorney Trainer. Children’s Law Center, USC School of Law, Band 07.  $27,338 or commensurate with experience.  State benefits included.  

Job Duties

This position has two primary purposes:  (1) To develop and conduct training related to child protection proceedings, including training programs for parent attorneys, volunteer guardians ad litem, and guardian ad litem program attorneys; and (2) To assist in court skills training for new child welfare professionals by participating in various roles in mock hearings and conducting presentations as requested.  This is a part-time position (20 hours per week).

Minimum Qualifications

Include a law degree, membership in the South Carolina Bar, and at least three years of experience in family court, including child protection proceedings.  Must have extensive knowledge of laws and procedures related to child protection court proceedings in South Carolina, the ability to conduct training for and establish working relationships with attorneys and other professionals, and the ability to explain legal concepts to nonlawyers.

Preferred Qualifications

Include experience in developing curriculum and conducting training programs for attorneys and other professionals.  Prefer experience in use of technology for virtual training.  Prefer completion of child law concentration in conjunction with law degree or course work in children’s law.  Experience in both child welfare and juvenile justice hearings would be a plus.
