March Mock Trial madness is in full gear! Results from the first-ever virtual South Carolina Bar Middle and High School Regional Mock Trial Competition held Feb. 26-27 are in. Congratulations to all students, teacher coaches and attorney coaches from 38 middle and high schools who took part in the outstanding event. 

The top middle schools were region winner Johnston-Edgefield- Trenton (JET) Middle School of Johnston and runner-up Bob Jones Academy of Greenville. Both teams will be presented with awards at their end of year awards ceremonies.  

Twelve high school teams will advance to the 2021 State High School Mock Trial Competition held virtually March 11-13. They are: 

  • Columbia Region: Winner Fort Mill High School and wild card teams Socastee High School of Myrtle Beach and York Preparatory Academy of Rock Hill;

  • Conway Region: Winner Carolina Forest High School of Myrtle Beach and wild card teams Lexington High SchoolGovernor’s School for Science and Mathematics of Hartsville, Bob Jones Academy of Greenville and Charleston School of the Arts

  • Greenville Region: Winner Strom Thurmond High School of Johnson and wild card teams Nation Ford High School of Fort MillDreher High School of Columbia and Dutch Fork High School of Irmo.

The Mock Trial Program is sponsored by the SC Bar’s Law Related Education Division, which was developed in 1976 to improve the ability of teachers to instruct law related education. The program is supported by the Bar’s LRE Committee and made possible through a SC Bar Foundation Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts grant and the SC Bar. The program cultivates understanding of the legal system as well as critical thinking skills, problem analysis and teamwork.
