COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 12, 2017) — Moncks Corner attorney Elizabeth H. (Babs) Warner will be installed as the 2017-18 president of the South Carolina Bar on Thursday, May 18, during the Bar’s House of Delegates meeting at Somerset Point in Pinopolis, SC.

Circuit Court Judge R. Markley Dennis Jr. will administer the oath of office, and Warner will address the House on initiatives for the coming year.

Warner is Vice President, Legal Services and Corporate Secretary for the SC Public Service Authority, where she has been employed in that capacity since 2013 and as associate general counsel from 2003 to 2013. Prior to the SC Public Service Authority, she worked in private practice at the law firm of Buist, Moore, Smythe & McGee, P.A.

Warner graduated from the USC School of Law in 1989 and was admitted to the Bar the following year. She has been active in Bar activities, serving on the Board of Governors, in the House of Delegates, and as chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Section and the In-House Counsel Committee. She is also a member of the Berkeley County Bar Association.
 
Community service has been a priority for Warner, having served on the SC Bar Foundation Board of Directors, SC Chamber Board of Directors, Roper Hospital Board of Directors, Palmetto Conservation Foundation Board of Directors, Trident United Way Board of Directors and as chair of the Berkeley County Foundation for Education, Coastal Community Foundation, Trident United Way Women’s Leadership Council, USC Board of Visitors, Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust, Berkeley Museum and Berkeley Chamber of Commerce.

She coached the Berkeley High School Mock Trial Team from 2003 to 2010 and is a graduate of Leadership South Carolina and the Diversity Leadership Institute.

Earlier this year, Warner received the Compleat Lawyer Award from the USC School of Law. In 2016, she was recognized as the Trident United Way Women’s Leadership Council Role Model of the Year. She is a past recipient of the SC Lawyers Weekly Leadership in Law Award and the South Carolina Bar Law Related Education Lawyer of the Year Award.
