North Myrtle Beach Middle School teacher Brenda Kidd has been named the 2017 Middle School Teacher of the Year by the SC Bar Law Related Education (LRE) Division for her tenacity and dedication to the North Myrtle Beach Middle School’s mock trial team. Kidd will be presented with a $1,000 award at the school’s annual awards day.

Kidd serves as the head coach for North Myrtle Beach Middle School’s mock trial team. She has coached the mock trial team for 14 years, leading North Myrtle Beach to first runner-up at the state competition in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Each year, Kidd strives to improve the overall Mock Trial program by furthering her students’ understanding of the legal and judicial system with useful resources and suggestions for personal improvement.

The LRE Middle School Teacher of the Year Award is presented to a teacher who has fostered public understanding of the values of the legal and judicial systems; stimulated a deeper sense of individual responsibility in students; encouraged and supported LRE programs; and increased communication among students, fellow educators and those working in the legal system.
