S.C. Bar to sponsor Legal Lessons: A Series for the Public in three locations

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 15, 2013) — The S.C. Bar Pro Bono Program is sponsoring Legal Lessons: A Series for the Public, a seven-week program in Greenwood, Orangeburg and Cheraw. The series designed to give the public an overview of the South Carolina legal system and insight into common legal problems people face. The cost of the seven-week course is $45 and includes course materials.
 
Greenwood classes will be held on Monday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at Piedmont Technical College (620 N. Emerald Rd.). The deadline to enroll is Feb. 25; to register, call (864) 941-8400. The schedule is as follows:
 
·      March 4 — overview of state courts and alternative dispute resolution
·      March 11 — juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings
·      March 18— family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law
·      March 25 — wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law
·      April 1 — S.C. workers’ compensation and employment law
·      April 8 — bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection
·      April 15 — criminal law and torts
 
Orangeburg classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College (3250 St. Matthews Rd.). The deadline to enroll is March 13; to register, call (803) 535-1236 or 1-800-813-6519, ext. 1236. The schedule is as follows:
 
·      March 19 — overview of state courts and alternative dispute resolution
·      March 26 — juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings
·      April 2— family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law
·      April 9 — wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law
·      April 16 — S.C. workers’ compensation and employment law
·      April 23 — bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection
·      April 30 — criminal law and torts
 
Cheraw classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at Northeastern Technical College (1201 Chesterfield Hwy.). The deadline to enroll is April 3; to register, call (843) 921-6920 or (843) 921-6924. The schedule is as follows:
 
·      April 9 — overview of state courts and alternative dispute resolution
·      April 16 — juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings
·      April 23— family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law
·      April 30 — wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law
·      May 7 — S.C. workers’ compensation and employment law
·      May 14 — bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection
·      May 21 — criminal law and torts
