Cinderella Project Committee
This committee waves its magic wand each year in March to provide prom dresses to social and economically disadvantaged high school girls.

Community Law Week Committee
Public service projects are held each year during the first week of May that are designed to promote the legal profession and provide the public with information about their legal rights. Law Week will include, but is not limited to, children's book drives, the DSS Playroom Project, kids' photo ID/fingerprinting, the Lawsuits Project and Speakers in Schools.

Children's Book Drives: Bring the joy of reading to all children by collecting children's books for economically disadvantaged school districts and/or children's shelters.

DSS Playroom Project: Renovate DSS rooms in which children and parents meet for supervised visitation and spotlight the important role a home plays in the family dynamic. Committee members will solicit contributions of furniture, home decor items and toys from area businesses. This year the Division will expand the program to the Upstate.

Kids' Photo ID/Fingerprinting Project: With the assistance of local area police, provide free photo IDs to children statewide.

Lawsuits Project: Collect gently worn business suits and other professional clothing for a community based organization that distributes them, free-of-charge, to social and economically disadvantaged people for job interviews.

Speakers in Schools: Pass your wisdom down to students who might be interested in a law career.

Disaster Relief Committee
Help provide instruction on the legal issues that often arise at the time of a natural disaster. Services offered include assistance with life insurance claims, counseling on landlord/tenant and other housing problems, assistance with home repair contracts and consumer protection matters, advice on remedies and procedures and the replacement of wills and other important legal documents.

Diversity/Minority Impact Committee
Promote diversity in the legal profession by focusing on issues of importance to racial and ethnic minorities. Projects planned for the 2006-2007 Bar year include the Minority Pre-Law Conference, MLK Day Programming Partnerships and Women-to-Work Symposium.

Minority Pre-Law Conference: This conference promotes minority enrollment in law school by addressing issues related to increasing minority retention in law school, bar passage rate and participation in the Bar.

MLK Day: Emphasize the importance of the rule of law during the Civil Rights Movement by presenting the video, "The Lawyer's Role in the Civil Rights Movement," to elementary, middle and high school students and community organizations. This year the committee will request to partner with the Bar's Law Related Education Division in this effort.

Women-to-Work Conference: Sponsored in conjunction with the Irmo chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, this conference will provide minorities and women with the knowledge needed to apply for and maintain professional jobs. The workshop will serve as a source of inspiration, with a variety of motivational speakers and a boutique on-site where the women may shop for gently worn business attire, free of charge.

Publications Committee
Assist with the preparation of YLD publications and thereby provide important legal information to the public. This year the committee will update Domestic Violence is a Crime: A Practical Guide for Victims; Getting Started: Considerations on Opening a Law Office; and the Post Conviction Relief Manual.

So You Want to Be a Lawyer
Help us mold future lawyers! Committee members will approach local high schools regarding their participation in a week of "shadowing" in October and March. This project is geared towards juniors and seniors who are interested in becoming a lawyer. The committee will discuss what it takes to become a lawyer, the different types of lawyers and education requirements. This committee may partner with the Bar's Law Related Education Division in this effort.

Wills Clinics
This program provides free wills for first response personnel. Attorneys from local areas take donated laptops and portable printers to centralized locations, usually fire departments or police department training centers, for assistance with the drafting of wills.
