Minutes October 2007

The Family Law Section Council met on this date via conference call. Participating members included Vicki Snelgrove, Lisa Emery, Melissa Brown, Connie Payne and C. Vance Stricklin. Representing the Bar staff was Tara Smith.

Chairperson Snelgrove called the meeting to order.

The first item of business was approval of the minutes from the September 20, 2007, meeting. Ms. Emery moved to approve the minutes.  Ms. Brown seconded the motion, and it was approved.

The next item of business was discussion on the proposed Financial Declaration form and Rule 14. Ms. Snelgrove reported that the Board of Governors had approved the Section's proposed amendments to the Financial Declaration form. She announced that she would submit a letter to Judge McGowan supporting the financial declaration form and the standing Rule 14.

In the next item of business was discussion on the Council dinner in conjunction with the 2008 Bar Convention. It was reported that the Council dinner scheduled for Friday, January 25, at 7:30 p.m. was relocated to Cypress. A copy of the proposed menus were emailed to the Council for consideration. After discussion, the Council selected the Cypress Trees option. Ms. Smith was to inform Ms. Myrick of the Council's decision.

Next, Ms. Smith provided a brief update on the 2008 Family Law Intensive Workshop scheduled for November 21 & 22 in Asheville, NC.  She announced that the CLE Division had received confirmation from the Grove Park Inn and speaker, Mark Powers.

Next, Ms. Snelgrove announced that the CLE Division had approached the Section on its interest in paying for the SC Family Court Handbook 2007. The Section’s contribution would assist in offsetting the cost of the publication to the Family Court judges. The Section would be acknowledged for its contribution. Two percent of the gross revenue from sales would be donated back to the Section. Ms. Brown moved that the Section pay for the SC Family Court Handbook 2007. Ms. Emery seconded the motion, and it was approved. Ms. Smith was to inform the CLE Division of the Council’s decision.

Next, Ms. Smith provided a brief overview of the Section's portion of the SC Bar radio segment, "U Need 2 Know." Participants included John Keffer, Vicki Snelgrove, Carol Sanders and Vance Stricklin.

It was reported that the next Section Council meeting was scheduled for November 15, 2007, at 3:00 p.m., via conference call.
