Minutes May 2008
The Family Law Section Council met this date at the Bar building. Participating members included Pat L. Forbis, James G. Long III, W. Randall Phipps, Vicki J. Snelgrove and C. Vance Stricklin. Participating via conference call were Melissa F. Brown, Martha L. Hamel, Connie F. Payne and Ashlin B. Potterfield. Representing the Bar staff was Tara Smith.
Chairperson Snelgove called the meeting to order.
The first item of business was approval of the minutes from the April 17, 2008, meeting. Ms. Forbis moved approval of the minutes. Ms. Brown seconded the motion, and it was approved.
The next item of business was on the 2008 Family Law Intensive Update. Ms. Smith announced that the CLE Division was researching availability and pricing of potential restaurants and transportation for the Friday night Council and faculty dinner. She was to email the information to the Council for review. Ms. Smith asked that the Council continue to seek sponsors.
Next was discussion on the new Financial Declaration. Ms. Brown expressed concern that revisions and additional language be incorporated into the new Financial Declaration. After discussion, the following suggestions were made: remove nursery school and add non-work related day care to number 11 of the explanation and include life insurance premiums and home owners insurance. The Council agreed to the proposed revisions. Ms. Snelgrove was to convey the Council's recommendations to the SC Supreme Court.
Next was discussion on the 2009 Bar Convention. Ms. Smith announced that the Section CLE was scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2:15-5:30 p.m. Ms. Snelgrove welcomed suggestions for potential speakers and topics. After discussion, the following were suggested: Immigration Law Issues, Patricia Ravenhorse; Evidentiary Update; New Financial Declaration, Jimmy Long and Judge Jay Vinson; HIPPA Issues, Jimmy Long; and a comic relief skit from Fred Harris.
Ms. Hamel asked that the Council email recommendations on potential locations for the Council luncheon and the Council and faculty dinner. Ms. Smith was to research transportation options for the dinner and was to report her findings at the next Council meeting.
It was reported that the next Section Council meeting was scheduled for June 19, via conference call.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
