Family Law Section Council Meeting Minutes
March 22, 2007


The Family Law Section Council met this date. Participating members included Elizabeth Myrick, W. Randall Phipps, Ashlin B. Potterfield. Members participating via conference call included Melissa H. Brown and Cathy Fairey. Representing Bar staff were Warren Holland, Matt Riley and Tara Smith.
 
Chairperson Myrick called the meeting to order.
 
The first item of business was discussion on the 2008 Intensive Workshop. It was reported that Ms. Myrick and Ms. Brown would coordinate the event. Ms. Brown provided a brief overview on potential dates and locations. She had obtained quotes from the Biltmore Inn, Grove Park Inn and Hyatt Regency. Mr. Riley noted that Sally Davis continued to research the availability of the Kiawah Island Resort. Ms. Myrick welcomed suggestions on potential speakers and topics.
 
The next item of business was discussion on the “Why Me?” video. Mr. Holland reported that the talent had been screened and hired and that the shoot was scheduled for March 23. Interviews were to be conducted next week. He noted that the projected distribution date was in May. Ms. Smith was to contact the Young Lawyers Division President, DeAndrea Benjamin to discuss marketing, expenses, and determine who would receive a complimentary copy of the DVD.
 
Next was approval of the minutes from the February 15, 2007, meeting. Ms. Brown moved approval of the minutes. Ms. Potterfield seconded the motion, and it was approved.
 
Ms. Smith reminded the Council of the Children’s Issues in Family Court, seminar that was scheduled for March 23, 2007. She announced that 140 were registered to attend.
 
Next, Ms. Myrick reported that the Charleston County Family Court Bar had approached the SC Bar on the Section’s interest in co-sponsoring its Bankruptcy and Family Law seminar scheduled for this summer. It was consensus of the Council that due to numerous family law programs and conflicts, that the offer be declined. 
 
It was announced that the next Section Council meeting was scheduled for April 19, 2007, via conference call.
 
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
