Minutes December 2007

The Family Law Section Council met on this date via conference call. Participating members included Pat Forbis, James G. Long III, Connie Payne, W. Randall Phipps, Vicki J. Snelgrove and C. Vance Stricklin. Representing the Bar staff was Tara Smith.

Chairperson Snelgrove called the meeting to order.

The first item of business was approval of the minutes from the October 18, 2007, meeting. Ms. Payne moved approval of the minutes. Mr. Phipps seconded the motion, and it was approved.

The next item of business was discussion on FY2008-09 Council nominations. Ms. Snelgrove announced that the Secretary position and two general Council member seats were vacant. She welcomed nominations from the Council. After discussion, a motion was made that Pat Forbis serve as Secretary and that David Geis and Ernest Jarrett fill the two general Council member seats, terms expiring in 2011. The motion was seconded, and it was approved.

Next was discussion on the proposed Financial Declaration form. It was reported that the Family Court judges had expressed interest in making additional revisions to the proposed form. Mr. Long reported that he had contacted Judge Jay Vinson to further discuss the revisions.

The next item of business was discussion on the 2008 Bar Convention. Ms. Snelgrove reminded the Council of the Section CLE scheduled for Friday, January 25, 2:15-5:30 p.m. She encouraged the Council to attend the noon luncheon at T-Bonz, and the Council and faculty dinner at Cypress. Cocktails were scheduled at 7:30 p.m., with dinner at 8:00 p.m.

Next was discussion on the 2008 Family Law Intensive. It was announced that the program was scheduled for November 21 & 22 at the Grove Park Inn. She welcomed recommendations for sponsors for the refreshment break, lunch and reception. Mr. Stricklin suggested that Tom Traxler sponsor the refreshment break. The Council was to research potential sponsors.
