Minutes December 2005

The Criminal Law Section Council met this date via conference call. Participating members included William D. Bilton, Trey Gowdy, III, E. Charles Grose, Kathrine H. Hudgins, Barbara R. Morgan and David P. Schwacke. Representing the Bar staff was Tara Smith.
 
The first item of business was discussion on the FY2006-2007 Council nominations. It was noted that the position of Secretary and two Council member seats were vacant. Mr. Grose welcomed nominations and recommended that a prosecutor and defense attorney serve on the Council. After discussion, Mr. Bilton nominated Trey Gowdy, III to serve as Secretary. Mr. Schwacke seconded the motion and it was approved. It was noted that both Stacy Haynes and Lee Coggiola were nominated to fill the two vacant Council member seats, terms expiring in 2009. Mr. Gowdy and Ms. Hudgins were to verify their interest in serving on the Council and were to email Ms. Smith their decisions. She was to email the FY2006-2007 proposed slate to the Council for consideration.
 
In the next item of business, Ms. Smith reported that the next Council meeting was scheduled for noon on January 10th at the Suggs and Kelly building in Columbia. Several of the Council members noted that they would not be able to attend the meeting due to scheduling conflicts. Ms. Smith was to research the availability of the Suggs and Kelly Boardroom for 10:00 a.m. on January 12 and forward the meeting notice to the Council. Mr. Grose asked that the subcommittees provide updates on the results from the loan forgiveness survey and the Pilot Track Docketing questionnaire form, during the January meeting.
 
Next was approval of the minutes from the August 4, 2005, meeting. Mr. Bilton moved approval of the minutes. The motion was seconded and it was approved.
