Minutes April 2005
The Criminal Law Section Council met on April 15, 2005, at 8:30 a.m. via conference call. Participating members included William D. Bilton, Lesley M. Coggiola, E. Charles Grose, Kathrine H. Hudgins and Donald J. Zelenka. Guests were Jay Elliott and Sally Elliott. Representing the Bar staff was Tara Smith.
The first item of business was discussion of the Task Force on Court Appointments Report. It was noted that the Council was provided the opportunity to review the report and submit comments and recommendations to the Task Force.
In absence of Chairperson Morgan, Jay Elliott briefly reviewed the portions of the report that pertained to the Section. After much discussion, the consensus of the Council was that it would maintain the existing position of the South Carolina Bar that adequate funding be made available for legal representation for indigents in civil and criminal courts. Mr. Elliott was to provide the Council with the summary of recommendations for final review before they were submitted to the Task Force for consideration.
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
