Call for Pro Bono Award nominations
The Bar is soliciting nominations for its Pro Bono Awards, presented annually to individual lawyers, law firms and institutions in the legal profession that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to volunteer legal services for the poor and disadvantaged. The winners will be announced in early January 2008 and recognized at the House of Delegates meeting on January 24 during Bar Convention in Charleston. The nomination form is available online at
www.scbar.org/pdf/PBAward2007.pdf. The deadline to submit a nomination is December 17.
S.C. Supreme Court to conduct computer-based testing
The Supreme Court of South Carolina will be conducting a computer-based testing (CBT) pilot program for the February 2008 Bar Examination. The pilot program will permit no more than 75 applicants to complete their answers to the essay sections of the examination on laptop computers. The 75 applicants will be randomly selected from those applicants who complete and return the form located at www.sccourts.org/bar/index.cfm by December 20.
YLD hosts Courthouse Keys reception
The Young Lawyers Division held a successful Courthouse Keys event in Charleston on November 15 with guest speaker Hon. Daniel Pieper. The Courthouse Keys program is designed to enable young lawyers and members of the bench to meet in an informal setting. This program, which has been popular among young lawyers since its inception, provided an opportunity for 30 young lawyers to converse with and learn from Judge Pieper. The Young Lawyers Division would like to thank Judge Pieper for graciously agreeing to attend this important event.
Casemaker® tip
Finding a phrase in Casemaker is as easy as adding a set of quotation marks. For example, the individual words breach, of, and contract will yield too many results, but put quotation marks around it and you will narrow your results by 50 percent. Also, Casemaker will not search for terms less than three characters long, so words like “an” and “of” are ignored unless used inside a phrase with quotes. To login to Casemaker, go to
www.scbar.org/login. For more assistance using Casemaker, contact Courtney Kennaday at (803) 799-6653, ext. 183 or

Discipline
By order of November 19 the Court imposed a public reprimand on G. Turner Perrow Jr. for misconduct that included disbursing funds from a trust account on a refinance loan before depositing the loan proceeds into the account and failing to verify funds for two closings had been wired to the correct account.
By order of November 27 the Court placed James R. Jones Jr. on interim suspension. Daniel B. Lott Jr. is the trustee.
Reinstatement
By order of November 26 the Court reinstated Bobby J. Long to practice.
