Amendments on expert testimony
On March 4 the Court issued an order regarding amendments it is considering to Rule 5 of the Rules of Criminal Procedure, Rules 16 and 26 of the Rules of Civil Procedure, and Rules 702 and 703 of the Rules of Evidence. The rule changes relate to the standards for admission of expert testimony in South Carolina, the procedure for qualification of experts and discovery of the substance of expert testimony. The Court will hold public hearings after conclusion of the June 2008 term of court. The time will be announced at a later date. To view the full text of the order, click here.

Disaster relief training seminar relocation
The Disaster Relief Committee of the Young Lawyers Division training seminar on March 28 from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m has changed location. The event will take place at the Charleston School of Law, Room 101, AT&T Building located at 385 Meeting St. The seminar is for 6.5 CLE credit hours. There is no registration fee to attend, and lunch will be provided. Note that you must be pre-registered to attend. Please reply to Tara Smith at (803) 799-6653, ext. 146 no later than March 14. Hurry, as space is limited. This seminar is also open to the general public.
