FAQ for Live Webcasts

Live Webcasts: What are they?
Live webcasts are internet broadcasts of live CLE seminars sponsored by the South Carolina Bar's CLE Division. Running time for these programs is usually six hours, although they can vary.  All you need to participate is a pc with a high-speed internet connection.  Recommended computer specifications also include Windows 2000 or later, Internet Explorer 6 or later and Windows Media Player 9 or later.

What are the recommended system requirements?
For PC users, we recommend Windows 2000+ with Internet Explorer 6.0+ and Windows Media Player 10+.
For Mac users, we recommend OS X (10.2+).  To view Live Webcasts, you will need to install Windows Media Player 9 for MAC OS X (installation instructions here), as the Flip4Mac plugin is not compatible with our seminars.

What are my other Distance Learning options?
In addition to live webcasts, the South Carolina Bar is also pleased to offer Seminars Direct Online and live teleseminars. For more information on these other offerings, please visit www.scbar.org/distancelearning.

Who can participate and how many hours can you earn?
The Supreme Court of South Carolina, by Order 2006-07-06-01, dated July 6, 2006, amended the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Regulations to allow judges and active South Carolina Bar members to obtain up to 6.0 of their required 14.0 hours per reporting year of MCLE/LEPR credit via Distance Learning. Please note that this requirement applies to all Distance Learning hours, regardless of whether they are acquired via Seminars Direct Online, live teleseminars or live webcasts. For the complete MCLE/LEPR rules and regulations, visit the Commission's website at www.commcle.org.

How do I access live webcasts?
To view a list of upcoming webcasts, go to www.scbar.org/seminarsdirect and click on the "Webcasts" tab.  You may add a webcast to your shopping cart by clicking on the buy now button. If you do not already have a live webcasts or Seminars Direct Online account, you will be asked to create one. Don't forget to keep your username and password in a safe place; you'll need them to log back into your account later. After you have purchased the webcast, you'll be taken to the "My Account" tab, which shows all your currently purchased webcasts and live seminars.  On the day of the webcast, you'll receive an email link to login to you account and view the webcast.  You will need to record the letters that appear periodically on the screen for reporting purposes.

If you would like to view the calendar of upcoming live seminars and webcasts together, go to the Bar's website at www.scbar.org.  Click on the Continuing Legal Education link.  Then click on the calendar link.  Seminars that are being webcast will be listed with the words, "Live & Webcast Seminar" preceeding the seminar title.  To register, click on the seminar title and select the webcast registration link.

If you encounter any technical problems associated with purchasing or viewing live webcasts, please call the 800 number located at the bottom of the page (in the catalog) or under the help tab (when viewing a seminar).

How is my attendance reported?
Periodically during the webcast, a letter will appear in the slides window of the webcast console.  At the end of the webcast, you will be asked to enter all the letters that appeared in the slides window in order to receive credit for the webcast. Once you correctly enter the letters, your completion is automatically recorded for reporting to the Commission on CLE and Specialization in South Carolina. You should still write the program in on your compliance report if it does not already appear there.

What proof do I have that I have completed the program?
Once you complete the program and enter the letters of the tracking code, your completion is automatically recorded for reporting to the Commission on CLE and Specialization in South Carolina. If you need credit for another state, or if you would like confirmation for your own records, you may complete an online affidavit and print a certificate of completion. Both the affidavit and the certificate are available via the "My Account" tab for thirty days after the purchase date of the webcast.
