About the Seminar
Married couples often make elaborate provisions for the transfer of assets on the “first death” of a spouse.  However as many complicated issues arise in anticipation of the “second death” in the marriage or other relationship.  This program will cover three distinct planning challenges in the lifecycle of a marriage.  First, the program will focus on planning opportunities and challenges that arise in anticipation of the “second death” in a marriage.  Second, the program will cover post-mortem planning techniques on the death of the first spouse.  Third, the program will discuss planning issues for the married couple, including exemption and credit planning.  Overall, this program will provide you a practical guide to the most important estate planning issues at each stage of the lifecycle of a marriage or other relationship.

About the Speakers
Jeanne Newlon is a partner in the Washington , D.C. office of Venable, LLP, where she is a member of the tax and wealth group, concentrating her practice on estate planning and business succession planning.  She has extensive experience advising clients on revocable trusts, gift trusts, insurance trusts, charitable trusts, intra-family loan agreements and Family Limited Partnerships.  She also advises clients on transfer tax and business planning, and represents clients before the IRS.  Ms. Newlon is a member of the ABA Section of Taxation and is the Chair of the Section’s Fiduciary Income Tax Committee. She is also a member of the Washington D.C. Estate Planning Council and serves as a co-chair of the Communications Committee and the co-editor of the Council’s newsletter.  Ms. Newlon received her B.S./B.A. from the University of Florida, her J.D. from George Washington University Law School , and her L.L.M. in taxation from Georgetown University .

Daniel L. Daniels is a principal in the Stamford office of Wiggin and Dana, LLP, where his practice focuses on representing business owners, corporate executives and other wealthy individuals and their families. A Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, he is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, and has been named by Worth magazine as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in the United States representing affluent individuals. With David T. Leibell, Mr. Daniels co-authors a monthly column in Trusts and Estates magazine. He has written numerous other articles on estate and tax planning and lectures on estate and tax planning topics throughout the United States.  He received his A.B., summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College and received his J.D., with honors, from Harvard Law School.
