YLD marks 15th year of preparing students for law school
On February 5, the Young Lawyers Division sponsored its 15th annual Minority Pre-Law Conference at Benedict College in Columbia. The conference is organized by the YLD’s Diversity/Minority Impact Committee as part of its efforts to organize and implement programs of interest to minority communities. The purpose of the conference is to promote minority enrollment in law school and address minority retention in law school, bar passage and participation in the Bar. During the conference, members of the legal community provided advice to attendees on preparation for the LSAT, the admissions process, financial aid and scholarships, and career choices in the legal profession. The Hon. Casey L. Manning gave the “Tips from the Bench” keynote address. Thirty law schools from across the United States participated by sending representatives or materials to assist students in the decision-making process. Click here to view photos from this event.
Carolina & Clemson Pep Rally
On November 27, 2009, YLD hosted its second annual Clemson v. Carolina Pep Rally to benefit Children’s Chance. The event was held at Nexsen Pruet in Columbia, where attendees enjoyed networking, music from the Joe Good Band, and supporting their respective teams. Special guest representatives of Children’s Chance spoke about the work done by Children’s Chance, a non-profit organization that raises money to fund a variety of programs to meet the financial, emotional and psychological needs of pediatric cancer patients and their families. All proceeds from tickets sales and the silent auction ($2,200) were donated to Children’s Chance. Check back soon to view photos from this event.
