MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  The 2012 Solo & Small Firm CLE and Annual Meeting “Small Firms, Big Opportunities” is Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Columbia Marriott.

Last year’s conference was a big success with 200 attendees, 14 exhibitors, a seated lunch, an address from the Bar President, prizes, and more! This year, we are aiming even higher, with more exhibits and an additional track for exhibitors to demonstrate their products and answer questions.

We have great speakers coming, with technology and practice management topics, such as e-discovery, iPads, fees, cloud computing, staffing issues, and everyone’s favorite: 60 Tips. Once again, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase bar publications at a discount that day. And if a software or hardware purchase is in your future, this is the CLE to attend.

Not a member of the Section yet? Join us now and receive discounts on select CLE, participate in our members-only listserv, be eligible for Section CLE scholarships, and more. Membership is just $20 annually. Contact the Section liaison to join.

Our Section seeks to enhance the competence and skills of lawyers engaged in solo or small firm practice and promote the interests and ideals of small firm lawyers in all Bar activities. The Section provides a forum through which solo and small firm practitioners may encourage and assist each other in resolving problems common to them and the legal profession. Activities include participation and membership in the Section's listserv, networking events, and promoting small firm-focused continuing legal education.

If you’ve ever tried to find a reply you sent by searching the Sent folder for it, then you know that it’s no easy task! There’s a much easier way to keep track of your replies in Outlook. You can have Outlook automatically save the replies you send with the original message instead. The catch [...]

Is your internet connection really as fast as your ISP claims? If you suspect it may be a little slower than advertised, you might be correct. Sometimes, ISPs may be a little misleading about the download/upload speed of the service they offer. Fortunately, you can find out if you are really getting less than you [...]

Since flash drives can easily be lost or stolen, it’s critical that you adequately protect any important data you have saved on one. You can make sure your data is safe by saving it on a flash drive that is encrypted. There are several programs designed to encrypt drives. DiskCryptor is one such program that [...]

The popular “60 Sites in 60 Minutes” session did not disappoint at this year’s ABA TECHSHOW®. The list included a little bit of everything – both useful (the Harvard Business School Elevator Pitch Builder) and silly (Why, Siri, Why?).  There were sites that help you monitor current scams, examine your social media privacy, or commission [...]

The future of the legal profession was on the minds of both attendees and speakers at last week’s TECHSHOW in Chicago. New products were announced, attendance was up, and the exhibitor hall was sold out, hinting at a possible economic recovery in the works.  Amicus Attorney unveiled a new cloud solution, while many other products [...]
