Health Care Law Section Council Meeting
May 8, 2012

The Health Care Law Section Council met this date via conference call. Participating members included Kelly M. Jolley, Charles M. Jordan, Jr., Ariail Kirk, Eli A. Poliakoff and Jane W. Trinkley. Representing Bar staff was Tara G. Smith.

Chairperson Trinkley called the meeting to order.

The first item of business was approval of the minutes from the April 4, 2012, meeting. Ms. Kirk moved approval of the minutes. Ms. Jolley seconded the motion, and it was approved.

The next item of business was discussion on the Section finances. Ms. Trinkley announced that the Section fund balance as of March 31, 2012 was $6,701. 39.

Next was discussion on the FY2012-2013 Council nominations. Ms. Smith noted that the below slate had been approved.

Next, it was reported that the 2013 Bar Convention was scheduled for January 24-27 at the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. Ms. Jolley announced that the Section was to coordinate a panel discussion for the first hour and 1/2 session with the Administrative & Regulatory Law Committee and the Environment & Natural Resources Section. Speakers for the second session were to provide an update on HIPPA, privacy rules, civil rights, etc. Ms. Jolley had requested that the Section seminar be held on Friday morning. After discussion, the Council expressed its interest in hosting a lunch on Friday at noon. Ms. Smith was research potential venues.

Next, Ms. Trinkley provided an update on the Bench Bar publication. She noted that Mr. Dayhuff, Ms. Jolley and Mr. Poliakoff were to review the final draft. Mr. Jordan agreed to assist. Mr. Poliakoff was to divide the various chapters amongst the volunteers. Revisions were to be submitted to Ms. Trinkley by June 12th. The final version would be available in the summer for members to access on the Bar website.

Ms. Smith reported that the proposed amendments to the Section bylaws were submitted to and approved by the House of Delegates at its May meeting.
