The Health Care Law Section Council met this date via conference call. Participating members included Ashley C. Biggers, Matthew R. Hubbell, Charles K. Jordan, Jr., Ariail Kirk, Eli A. Poliakoff, Shealy B. Reibold and Jonathan A. Wallace. Representing Bar staff was Tara G. Caine.
Chairperson Jordan called the meeting to order.
The first item of business was approval of the minutes from the May 14, 2013, meeting. Mr. Wallace moved approval of the minutes. Ms. Arial seconded the motion, and it was approved.
Mr. Jordan announced that the Section fund balance as of April 30, 2013, was $7,981.90.
Next was discussion on the Bar Convention scheduled for January 23-26, at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Mr. Wallace announced that the Section was to partner with the Administrative & Regulatory Law Committee and the Environment & Natural Resources Section. The CLE was scheduled for Friday, January 24th from 8:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Mr. Wallace briefly reviewed the proposed agenda and stated that presentations would address controlled substance issues/DEA regulations and the scope of practice issues. He welcomed feedback from the Council on potential speakers. After discussion, Connie Overton was suggested to provide an update on DEA regulations. Mr. Wallace volunteered to address controlled substance issues. Darra Coleman with LLR was recommended to address issues on the scope of practice. It was suggested to provide a private practitioner’s point of view on the topic. Ms. Caine noted that the deadline to submit the CLE agenda and faculty roster was July 22nd.
Ms. Caine reported that the CLE Division decided not to pursue the Convention Section sponsorships for the 2014 Bar Convention.
Mr. Jordan announced that Ms. Jolley was reviewing the process on obtaining accreditation from the S.C. Supreme Court Commission on CLE & Specialization for Health Care Law. Further discussion was tabled until the next meeting.
