The Government Law Section Council met this date via conference call. Participating members included W. Lawrence Brown, Sandy Cruickshanks, IV, Lawrence E. Flynn, III, Michael Kendree, Nancy Shealy, Robert R. Smith, II, R. Brent Thompkins, Timothy C. Winslow and Kimberly N. Wunder. Representing Bar staff was Tara G. Caine.
Chairperson Winslow called the meeting to order.
The first item of business was approval of the minutes from the August 5, 2012, meeting. Mr. Brown moved approved of the minutes. Mr. Cruickshanks seconded the motion, and it was approved.
The next item of business was discussion on the Bar Convention. Ms. Caine distributed a copy of the evaluation summaries from the Section seminar. It was noted that the seminar was well received and attended. The Council thanked Mr. Smith and Mr. Flynn for coordinating the event. Ms. Caine announced that that the 2014 Convention was scheduled for January 23rd – 26th in Kiawah. She welcomed a volunteer to serve as the CLE coordinator.
Next was discussion on the 2013 Section Midyear meeting. It was noted that the meeting was scheduled for Friday, June 21st at the Bar Conference Center. Mr. Winslow welcomed feedback from the Council on potential speakers and topics. Mr. Kendree agreed to speak on road closings. Ms. Caine was to solicit additional recommendations through the Section listserv. Mr. Winslow solicited volunteers to coordinate the program. After discussion, Mr. Winslow was to contact Jeremy Cook regarding his interest in serving as the CLE coordinator. Ms. Wunder and Mr. Cruickshanks volunteered to assist.
In closing was discussion on the Section newsletter. Ms. Caine noted that it had been over a year since the last edition was distributed. She encouraged the Council to submit articles for future issues.
