Minutes March 2012

The Government Law Section Council met this date via conference call. Participating members included Lawrence Brown, Sandy Cruickshanks, Lawrence Flynn, Michael Kendree, Nancy Shealy and Rob Smith. Representing Bar staff was Tara G. Smith.

Chairperson Cruickshanks called the meeting to order.

The first item of business was approval of the minutes of the August 10, 2011, meeting. Mr. Flynn moved approval of the minutes. Mr. Smith seconded the motion, and it was approved.

The next item of business was discussion on the 2012 Bar Convention. It was noted that the evaluation summaries from the Section CLE were distributed to the Council prior to the meeting. Mr. Cruickshanks stated that the seminar was well received.

Next was discussion on the 2013 Bar Convention. Ms. Smith announced that the Convention was scheduled for January 24 – 27 at the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. Mr. Cruickshanks stated that Mr. Winslow had appointed a member to serve as the coordinator but welcomed additional volunteers. Mr. Flynn and Mr. Smith agreed to serve in this capacity.

It was reported that the Section mid-year meeting was scheduled for June 15, 2012, at the Bar Conference Center. Ms. Winters was to submit the agenda and outline to the CLE Division by March 16th. Ms. Smith was to order lunch for attendees.

Ms. Smith stated that articles were needed for the next issue of the Section newsletter. She noted that the winter issue would not be released due to the lack of submissions. Mr. Cruickshanks encouraged members to submit articles.

In closing was discussion on the FY2012-2013 Council vacancy. Ms. Smith announced that one general Council member seat was vacant. She stated that a list of nominees along with their bios/letters of recommendation had been distributed to the Council. Mr. Cruickshanks briefly reviewed the candidates and welcomed feedback from the Council. After discussion, it was suggested that the Council members cast their votes via email to Ms. Smith.
