The Construction Law Section Council met this date via conference call. Participating members included A. Bright Ariail, Keven Kenison, Joshua D. Spencer, Tracy T. Vann and James E. Weatherholtz.
Chairperson Weatherholtz called the meeting to order.
The first item of business was approval of the minutes from the December 5, 2012, meeting. Ms. Ariail moved approval of the minutes. Mr. Spencer seconded the motion, and it was approved.
The next item of business was discussion on the 2013 Bar Convention. Mr. Weatherholtz stated that the Section seminar was well attended and received. He noted that the Section manual was a huge success. Ms. Smith was to distribute a copy of the evaluation summaries.
Next, Mr. Weatherholtz announced that the 2013 Joint Conference was scheduled for September 27th – 29th at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. Ms. Vann and Mr. Kenison were to coordinate with the NC liaison, James Johnson.
Next was discussion on the 2015 Joint Conference. Ms. Caine noted that a list of proposed dates and venues were distributed to the Council for consideration. She welcomed feedback from the members. It was suggested to host the program in downtown Charleston due to convenience. After discussion, it was the consensus of the Council to conduct the conference at the Francis Marion Hotel on September 18th & 19th. Ms. Caine was to inform the CLE Division of the Council’s decision.
Ms. Caine reminded the Council that the Section was to distribute an annual summary in lieu of the quarterly newsletter. Ms. Kenison was to coordinate and distribute the summary in December.
Next was an update on legislative issues. A list of pre-filed and newly filed bills relevant to construction law were distributed to the Council. Ms. Vann had previously expressed her concern for H.3133, H.3146 and S.6. Ms. Caine asked that the Bar monitor the bills.
