S.C. Bar to sponsor Legal Lessons program in three S.C. locations this fall

COLUMBIA, S.C. (July 2, 2012) — The S.C. Bar Pro Bono Program is sponsoring Legal Lessons: A Series for the Public, a seven-week program, in Beaufort, Graniteville and Spartanburg. The series is designed to give the public an overview of the South Carolina legal system and insight into common legal problems people face. The cost of each seven-week series is $45, which includes course materials.

Beaufort classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Technical College of the Lowcountry located at 921 Ribaut Rd. The deadline to enroll is Aug. 29. To register, call (843) 525-8205 or visit http://www.tcl.edu/continuing-ed/legal-lessons. The schedule is as follows:
 
·       Sept. 4 — overview of state courts and alternative dispute resolution
·       Sept. 11 — juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings
·       Sept. 18— family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law
·       Sept. 25 — wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law
·       Oct. 2 — S.C. workers’ compensation and employment law
·       Oct. 9 — bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection
·       Oct. 16 — criminal law and torts
 
Graniteville classes will be held on Monday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at Aiken Technical College located at 2276 Jefferson Davis Hwy. The deadline to enroll is Sept. 11. To register, call (803) 593-9954, ext. 1230. The schedule is as follows:

Spartanburg classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at Spartanburg Community Collegelocated at 800 Brisack Rd. The deadline to enroll is Sept. 28.
