Attorney Information System
The S.C. Supreme Court
issued an order regarding the second phase of the Attorney Information System (AIS). To facilitate its implementation, attorneys and foreign legal consultants licensed in South Carolina must verify their information in AIS by Dec. 10, 2012. Instructions will be included with the 2013 license fee statements from the S.C. Bar. Attorneys and foreign legal consultants who have not verified their AIS information will not be allowed to pay their license fees for 2013 until they have completed the verification process.

Advance Sheet update
November 7, 2012
Upon finding the Workers’ Compensation Commission’s Appellate Panel’s order insufficient to enable a meaningful review, the S.C. Court of Appeals reversed the circuit court and remanded the case to the Appellate Panel. On remand, the court instructed the Appellate Panel to: (1) determine whether the appellant suffered from a Chiari I Malformation and, if so, whether the malformation was aggravated by her fall; (2) weigh the evidence and determine whether the appellant suffered a brain injury; (3) cite evidence to support its finding that the brain damage was equivocal; and (4) clarify its finding, with sufficient evidence, of whether it found no causal relationship between the fall and the appellant’s brain injury or between the decompression surgery and the brain injury.
Canteen v. McLeod Regional Medical Center, No. 5047, is available
online.

By
order of November 6, the S.C. Court of Appeals granted Ronnie L. Blackmon’s motion to withdraw his appeal. The court withdrew and vacated its opinion that affirmed in part, reversed in part and remanded Blackmon’s conviction for failure to stop for a blue light.
