S.C. Bar young lawyers donate backpacks to students in need

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Aug. 21, 2012) – The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) delivered backpacks filled with school supplies to students in need throughout the state, as part of its annual Backpack Drive.
In Charleston, YLD combined efforts with the City of Charleston's First Day Fair, and donated 12 large boxes filled with backpacks and school supplies to students throughout the Charleston area.
In Columbia, YLD coordinated efforts with The Cooperative Ministry for the fourth straight year to collect nearly 150 backpacks filled with school supplies for donation to Watkins-Nance Elementary School, W.A. Perry Middle School and The Cooperative Ministry on Aug. 17.
YLD teamed up with the York County Bar in Rock Hill to collect supplies and donate 20 filled backpacks to Sunset Park Elementary School on Aug. 20.
"Thanks to everyone who donated supplies and volunteered their time, YLD was able to provide backpacks and necessary school supplies to students who really needthem,” said Paul Hoefer, chair of the YLD Backpack Committee. “I look forward to this project each year, knowing that we get to help students start theiryear off right.”
The YLD includes all members of the S.C. Bar under age 36 and those with less than five years membership.
The S.C. Bar, which has a membership of more than 14,000 lawyers, is dedicated to advancing justice, professionalism and understanding of the law.
