Ward named 2014 Pro Bono Award winner
The S.C. Bar will bestow the 2014 Pro Bono Award upon Sharon Young Ward of Charleston for her contributions to meeting the civil legal needs of citizens who cannot afford the services of an attorney. The award will be presented during the S.C. Bar Foundation Gala on March 21 at The Hall at Senate’s End in Columbia. Learn more about Ms. Ward's pro bono work in this release.
Electronic ballots for House of Delegates elections
Electronic ballots have been distributed for delegates to the House of Delegates in the 1st, 5th, 7th, 9th and 15th Circuits as well as for the Out of State Delegate. Ballots were sent to e-mail address on file with the Attorney Information System in the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 21, from email@example.com. If your address on file is in one of these circuits or is out of state and you did not receive a ballot, please check your spam filter and junk folder. If after checking you still do not have a ballot, contact Tara Caine at firstname.lastname@example.org and your ballot will be resent. Ballots must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 17.
Help Cinderella get to the ball
The 2014 YLD Cinderella Project is underway! The annual project provides gently worn formal, bridesmaid and prom dresses, evening bags, jewelry, shoes and other accessories to young women who lack the financial resources to buy these items for their high school proms. Donations are still being accepted in Anderson, Columbia, Greenwood and Orangeburg. Visit www.cinderellaprojectsc.com for details.

As preparation for Gala 2014 continues, let’s not forget the many activities of Bar Foundation grantees this month: the High School Mock Trial State Competition, the Law School for Non-Lawyers programs and a multitude of substantive area legal clinics. By order of March 5 the Court disbarred Phillip Earle Williams for misconduct including failure to safekeep property and making a false statement of a material fact to a tribunal. The Court imposed additional conditions as set forth in the agreement for discipline.
By order of March 4 the Court placed Frank Barnwell McMaster on interim suspension.
By order of March 5 the Court placed Daniel Nathan Hughey on interim suspension.
By order of March 5 the Court placed John Kevin Owens on interim suspension. Peyre Thomas Lumpkin was appointed as receiver.
