Memory Hold the Door ceremony
The Memory Hold the Door Committee will recognize distinguished, deceased members of the bench and bar at a ceremony during the 2014 Bar Convention at the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23. The 2013 honorees are Jackson L. Barwick Jr., Justice A. Lee Chandler, David H. Crum, Martha B. Dicus, T. Allen Legare Jr., Hon. Berry L. Mobley, William B. Regan, Melvin L. Roberts, Morris D. 2014 Law Day Essay Contest
The S.C. Bar Senior Lawyers Division and the Spartanburg County Bar Association are sponsoring the 2014 Law Day Essay Contest. Students are asked to write an essay on this year's theme, "American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters." Submissions must be received by noon on Friday, April 11. Each local overall and grade winning essay will then be submitted to the Senior Lawyers Division for the statewide awards. More information and the contest packet can be found on the SLD page.
By order of January 2 the Court disbarred C. Kevin Miller (retroactive to March 7, 2012) for, inter alia, failure to act with reasonable promptness and diligence and failure to safeguard clients’ property.
Readmission petition granted
By order of December 23 the Court granted the petition for readmission of Kelly Evans. The readmission will occur in February.
Transfer in status
By order of December 20 the Court transferred Walter Bilbro Jr. to incapacity inactive status. Ravi Sanyal was appointed as trustee.
By order of December 20 the Court reinstated Michael O’Brien Nelson to the practice of law.
