S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division to be recognized with national award

September 30, 2013

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept. 30, 2013)—The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Families Forever Committee will be recognized as an Angel in Adoption™ by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) on October 8 in Washington, D.C. The Committee is being honored for its annual Families Forever Fairs, which provide resource materials and free information on adoption and foster care.

Fairs are scheduled in Greenville and Charleston each year, during which attorneys, adoption agencies and other vendors in children’s services are on hand to answer questions and provide professional insight. Several 30-minute workshops are also offered to attendees on a variety of topics including home studies, international and domestic adoptions, and financing options. In January 2013, the first Lexington, S.C. fair was sponsored, and efforts are being made to expand the project statewide.

The inaugural Families Forever Fair was held in 2008 in an effort to increase awareness about adoption among the general public and educate attorneys in different practice areas. In 2009, Families Forever received two prestigious awards: Most Outstanding Service Project in the country offered by young lawyers from the American Bar Association, and an Award of Excellence from the American Society of Association Executives.

“It’s truly an honor to be named an Angel in Adoption™,” said Jacqueline Bond Anthony, co-chair of the 2013-14 S.C. Bar YLD Families Forever Committee. “Each year we are able to provide valuable information to those considering adoption, and it’s so rewarding to know that these fairs are helping people create their forever families.”

The Angels in Adoption™ program is a CCAI public awareness campaign that provides an opportunity for members of the U.S. Congress to honor those who have enriched the lives of foster children and orphans in the United States and abroad. The program was established in 1999 as a Congressional press conference and has since developed into a yearlong campaign. For more information, visit
