PMAP Tech Tip
Controlling the information about you that circulates on the Internet can be difficult. Lawyers should always be mindful of what might surface when a potential client or employer searches their names. One problem you may come across when removing information about yourself from the Internet is tracking down old accounts and deleting them. Just Delete Me is a site that provides you with direct links to do just that; learn more on its website. Contact PMAP for free assistance with your law practice at

Attorney search now available
The public may now search for information regarding licensed S.C. attorneys on the Judicial Department's website. The public can search for an attorney by first, middle or last name, or any combination. The search will display the attorney's contact information, S.C. Bar number, S.C. Bar membership class and status, and other relevant information. The Bar's website will continue to have attorney search capability by name, city, state, zip code and county.

Advance Sheet update
September 4, 2013
In this arbitration dispute, the S.C. Court of Appeals affirmed, finding the trial court did not err in dismissing the appellants’ suit and compelling arbitration since every dispute was within the scope of at least one valid arbitration agreement.
York v. Dodgeland of Columbia, Inc., Op. No. 5169 (S.C. Ct. App. filed September 4, 2013) (Shearouse Adv. Sh. No. 39 at 30), is available

The court reversed the decision of the trial court and remanded for a new trial after finding Rogers was denied his right to exercise his peremptory challenges when the trial court improperly granted the State’s Batson motions regarding three jurors.
State v. Rogers, Op. No. 5170 (S.C. Ct. App. filed September 4, 2013) (Shearouse Adv. Sh. No. 39 at 53), is available

In this workers’ compensation dispute, the court held Nicholson’s injuries did not arise out of her employment and, therefore, are not compensable under South Carolina’s workers’ compensation law. Consequently, the court reversed the decision of the Workers’ Compensation Commission.
Nicholson v. SCDSS, Op. No. 5171 (S.C. Ct. App. filed September 4, 2013) (Shearouse Adv. Sh. No. 39 at 67), is available
Chief Judge Few dissented in a separate opinion.

Rogers appealed his murder conviction, asserting the trial court erred when it refused to direct a verdict in his favor. The court affirmed, holding that although the State presented only circumstantial evidence, the evidence presented met the “substantial circumstantial evidence” requirement and thus was sufficient to submit the case to the jury.
State v. Rogers, Op. No. 5172 (S.C. Ct. App. filed September 4, 2013) (Shearouse Adv. Sh. No. 39 at 82), is available
