Recent CLE publication releases
The S.C. Bar CLE Division is pleased to introduce
S.C. Construction Law Desk Book, a handy reference for S.C. lawyers who advise clients in the construction industry. Whether your practice revolves around construction law and its various nuances, or you have a client with the occasional need for construction-related services, every S.C. lawyer confronted with a construction-related issue should have this resource.

So You're Going to Try Your First Case, Third Edition
provides the most recent analysis of punitive damages and a roadmap on navigating the confusing pretrial procedure used in S.C. federal courts. If you’ve never tried a jury trial, haven't done so recently or are an out-of-state lawyer about to try a case in South Carolina, you need this book!

Fraud reminder
The Bar received a
letter from the General Counsel of Airgas. Airgas is an American company that is an unwilling participant in one of the recent fraud schemes involving a request from a prospective client, via e-mail or letter, that an attorney hold money in trust. Bar members are reminded to be diligent guardians of their trust accounts and to verify that all funds are collected, pursuant to Rule 1.5, SCRPC, prior to release of those funds.

Online tax filing secure
The S.C. Department of Revenue
issued this message to reassure taxpayers that filing electronically remains secure and encourages tax professionals to continue to do so.

Dateline to feature U.S. Attorney's drug prevention program
This Friday, Feb. 1, at 10 p.m., Dateline NBC will feature an
hour-long special on the success of a joint effort between U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles, officers from the N. Charleston Police Department and the local community to combat open air drug dealing. The special will be carried on all NBC affiliates. The innovative approach to crime prevention is serving as a model for similar programs in Columbia and throughout the nation.
