S.C. Bar releases judicial candidate report

April 03, 2012

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Apr. 3, 2012)--The South Carolina Bar Judicial Qualifications Committee has released its report on the qualifications of candidates for the following judicial positions:

Family Court, 10th Circuit, Seat 2
Family Court, 11th Circuit, Seat 3

The report is available here.

The report reflects the composite perspective provided by members of the Bar who were interviewed about each candidate’s judicial temperament, character, knowledge of the law and legal skills. A significant number of interviews were sought by the Committee for each candidate, and the candidates themselves were directly interviewed. The investigative interviews were confidential to encourage candid responses.

The Committee used a three-tiered rating system whereby candidates were reported as Well Qualified, Qualified or Unqualified. The overall rating received by each candidate was based upon the collective opinion in each of the following subcategories: Ethical Fitness, Professional and Academic Ability, Character, Reputation, Experience, and Judicial Temperament. A candidate did not receive an overall finding of Well Qualified unless he/she was found Well Qualified in all six subcategories. Candidates were only found Qualified or Unqualified in the categories of Constitutional Qualifications, Mental Stability and Physical Health.

The report has been forwarded directly to members of the Judicial Merit Selection Commission of the South Carolina General Assembly.

The South Carolina Bar, which has a membership of more than 14,000 lawyers, is dedicated to advancing justice, professionalism and understanding of the law.
