Young lawyers to co-host adoption expos in Greenville and Charleston

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Dec. 29, 2011) — The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD), in conjunction with the Adoption Coalition for Education and Support, will hold the annual Families Forever Fair on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the YWCA of Greenville located at 700 Augusta St.

A second fair will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Felix C. Davis Community Center located at 4800 Park Cr. in N. Charleston.

The fairs offer free information on adoption, as well as resource materials and one-on-one advice on domestic and international adoption, foster care and the adoption process. Adoption professionals will be on hand to educate and qualify families for adoption through abuse and neglect screenings, SLED checks and more. Individuals from throughout the S.C. adoption arena will be present, scheduling home studies and taking consents. Attorneys, agencies and other vendors in children’s services will be present and several 30-minute adoption workshops will be available during the fair. Sessions include:
Session 1
Workshop A: Adoption 101— What are the options and how to decide which type of adoption is best for you.
Workshop B: The Home Study—Demystifying the home study process and the role of the home study provider.
Session 2
Workshop A: DSS Adoption—Learn about public adoption programs, domestic and foster care adoption, available children, requirements and procedures.
Workshop B: International Adoption—Requirements, accreditation and choosing a country.
Session 3
Workshop A: Domestic Infant Adoption—Explore the legal process of domestic adoption, the role of an attorney, requirements and the adoption process.
Workshop B: Children’s Health in Adoption—An overview of health and developmental issues of adopted children.
Session 4
Workshop A: Parent Panel—Panel of adoptive parents, questions and answers.
Workshop B: The Home Study—Demystifying the home study process and the role of the home study provider.
