Middle School Mock Trial Regional Competition results
The 2011 Middle School Mock Trial Regional Competitions were held on Saturday, Nov. 5. Congratulations to Crayton Middle School (Columbia), Dutch Fork Middle School (Columbia), Forestbrook Middle School (Myrtle Beach), Hammond Middle School (Columbia), Johnsonville Middle School, Johnston Edgefield Trenton Middle School (Johnston), Lexington Middle School, Marrington Middle School (Goose Creek), Springfield Middle School (Fort Mill) and St. Anthony Catholic School (Florence). These schools will compete in the State Competition Dec. 9-10 at the Marc H. Westbrook Lexington County Judicial Center. The Law Related Education (LRE) Division thanks all of the attorney volunteers that made the 2011 Middle School Mock Trial Regional Competitions a success. Attorney volunteers served in the roles of mock trial regional coordinators, attorney coaches, scoring judges and presiding judges. S.C. Bar Convention spotlight
This year's plenary luncheon will be held Friday, Jan. 20, and will include Chief Justice Jean H. Toal's State of the Judiciary address and remarks from Furman University President Rodney A. Smolla. In addition, the S.C. Bar Foundation will bestow the prestigious DuRant Award upon a S.C. attorney, and attendees will be treated to a moving performance by the Benedict College Gospel Choir with special introduction by Hootie & The Blowfish band member Jim Sonefeld. Grant money to be awarded to S.C. Legal Services
The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) intends to award grants to S.C. Legal Services. The estimated amount of grants awarded to S.C. Legal Services is approximately $5,375,084. The grants will be awarded in January 2012.

By order of November 7 the Court imposed a public reprimand (with additional conditions) on G. Turner Perrow Jr. for misconduct which included misrepresenting to his client that he had received a settlement offer on a claim which was not viable and paying the client with personal funds two months after the client accepted the purported offer.
