Bar petitions under review
The Court has advised the Bar that its proposals on time limits in Magistrates Court and adding a rule on calculating time to the Rules of Criminal Procedure will be considered by the Docket Management Task Force.
Foundation announces new officers and directors
The Bar Foundation announces Jack D. Griffeth as president, Beverly A. Carroll as president-elect and Elaine H. Fowler as secretary/treasurer. The Foundation also welcomes five new directors: Amy Landers May, Jocelyn T. Newman, Alice F. Paylor, Marie-Louise Ramsdale and James W. Sheedy. Get to know these lawyers who will help the Foundation advance justice by cultivating support to fund grantees. Last year alone, Bar Foundation grantees served more than 10,200 low-income South Carolinians in need of legal services, 450 homeless and 390 victims of domestic abuse. The League of Women Voters of South Carolina invites you to the closing of its two-year project on the importance of independence and diversity in the state judicial system. The event will feature a public forum titled "The State of the Judiciary in South Carolina: From Research to Reality" and will take place on Aug. 7 at the USC School of Law Auditorium in Columbia. Chief Judges for administrative purposes of the summary courts
By order of June 29, the attached list of judges of the magisterial and municipal courts are to be designated as Chief Judge or Associate Chief Judge for administrative purposes of the summary courts in the counties in which they hold office.
The S.C. Judicial Department has issued fee memoranda regarding statutory provisions for the distribution of revenue generated by the following: county treasurers; magistrates and municipal judges; and clerks of court and registers of deeds.
