The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Sen. Glenn McConnell, met Tuesday, January 17, 2012. S.3: Constitutional amendment proposed received a favorable report as amended. S.372: State Agency Deficit Prevention and Recognition Act received a favorable report as amended. H.3226: Regulatory Reform Act received a majority favorable with amendment; minority unfavorable Judiciary. S.12: Constitutional amendment proposed received a favorable report from the Committee on Judiciary. H.1031: A bill to increase the age of the vehicle that may be disposed of by a demolisher received a favorable report with amendment from the Committee on Judiciary.
The House Ways and Means Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Mike Pitts, met Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Budget presentations were given by the Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services and Commission on Indigent Defense. Representing South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense were Patton Adams, Executive Director, and Hugh Ryan, Deputy Director and General Counsel. Marvin Quattlebaum, SC Bar President, testified in support of the Commission’s budget request and urged Rule 608 funding.
The House Judiciary Family and Probate Laws Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. George Hearn, met on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Pat Forbis testified on H.4614: Child Custody and it received a favorable report with amendment.
The House Criminal Law Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Bruce Bannister, met Wednesday, January 18, 2012. H.4561: Drivers' license suspensions, H.3640: Dog bite liability and H.4463: Transfer courts were before the Criminal Law Subcommittee. H.4561 received a favorable report and Dan Goldberg and David Ross, Executive Director of SC Commission on Prosecution Coordination, testified on the bill. Jeff Moore, Executive Director of the Sheriffs’ Association, and Hank Ehlies also testified on H.3640.
