About the Seminar
This program qualifies for 6.0 MCLE credit hours, including up to 1.0 LEPR credit hour and 1.0 SA/MH credit hour and 5.0 Bankruptcy & Debtor/Creditor Specialization credit hours.
Join your colleagues for a powerful and insightful look at some of the hottest topics in bankruptcy and debtor/ creditor practice in the District of South Carolina. Course Planner Suzi Grigg has brought together a stellar faculty of practitioners, as well as Chief Judge John Waites, who will share with you their assessments of where we are and where we are going over the next year.
This cutting edge program, designed for intermediate to advanced level practice, has been approved for 5.0 Bankruptcy/Debtor-Creditor Specialization credit, as well as 1.0 hours of LEPR credit.
This special program features an address by Chief Judge John Waites on emerging trends, problems, and solutions
in Bankruptcy Court. In addition, North Carolina attorneys Elizabeth Brantley and George Oliver will explain the latest trend of trading “dirt for debt” in North Carolina, with an emphasis on whether they think it could work in this State.
Columbia attorneys Nancy Johnson and Brian Boger will teach you how to protect “grandma” from the Big Bad Wolf without filing bankruptcy, and George Cauthen will discuss how you can “do good by being good” in your pro bono work.
We are also pleased to present psychologist and professional counselor Dr. Lisa Holland, who will help you satisfy the new “once every three-year” substance abuse/ mental health requirement with her insightful discussion of Neuroscience for Lawyers: Why Suppressing Your Emotions Can Lead to Anxiety. This one hour discussion will give you a snapshot of how your brain uses emotion. And, the more you’re comfortable with emotion, the less you will feel the need to suppress it.
Finally, Tanya Gee will moderate Bankruptcy Squares a participatory game show based on the old Hollywood Squares. Tanya will lead you and a cast of nine judicial and attorney “celebrities” through some thorny and often humorous rules and case law updates while trying to play tictac- toe. CLE has never been so much fun! If you practice bankruptcy or debtor/ creditor law in South Carolina, you won’t want to miss this entertaining, practical, and powerful seminar!
